Get Around

The airport is divided into 5 floors and a mezzanine, on each floor you have 10 entrance/exit doors or fewer. We use it as a landmark. Example: taxis are located on the First floor, door 4 and 7. The check-in counters on the fourth floor are divided by letter corresponding to different rows.

ATM and money exchange

They are just all over the place, airside, landside, any floor. Money exchange offers a slightly inferior rate than in the city. It may be preferred to change a small amount of money. If you use an ATM, processing fee is 150 to 180 Baht, and you can withdraw up to 20 000 Baht in most cases.

Bangkok Airport BKK Arrival

How to fill up your Immigration card (TM 6)

Fill up both sides (arrival and departure). Visa No. can be left blank if you get your visa on arrival. If you don’t know your address or haven’t booked your guesthouse/hotel, you can use a random address like Happy guesthouse, Bangkok or Sabai hotel, Bangkok.

Follow Immigration signs direction to the passport check counter.

Have these papers ready:

  • Passport
  • Thai Arrival card
  • Boarding pass

Passed immigration is the baggage claim area.

You may have to get your luggage scan when you exit the baggage claim area. It seems like it’s random when you have small luggage.

A lot of solicitations is made in the arrival area, for taxi, hotel, tour, etc. You may want to move somewhere quieter.

Taxi are accessible 24 hours a day on level 1 at door 4 and 7. State your destination at the desk, get your ticket and you are ready to go. Taxis are metered; the total fare is (50 Baht + Expressway toll fee + meter). Your ticket act as a quality control agent, if you have any complaint about your ride, simply call the number on your ticket. English is spoken at the desk, but your driver won’t necessarily speak it. Overall taxis are cheap, fast, safe and much easier when it’s your first time in Bangkok. If your flight arrives during night time (between midnight and 5:30), taxi or limo are your only options.

Sleep in Bangkok airport

Suvarnabhumi airport has everything needed for sleep. Most airport sleepers are based on the third floor. You will see plenty of them from one end to another. If you seek calm for the night, go to the basement. A 7-11 is open 24h, and you can get WiFi from Subway restaurant or Cafe world. The downside is there is no washroom. Another quiet area for sleep is the observation mezzanine. You access the observation area from the departure level behind row Q and P.

Maybe you just want to book an hotel near the airport. Many, if not all, offer an airport shuttle bus.

Budget tips

BKK airport makes no exception foods and drinks aren’t selling for cheap. However don’t lose hope there are few places only known by locals and airport personnel. 7-eleven is open 24h a day, and the price is exactly the same as in town. The food court on level 1 near door 8 is another good pick. With all the typical Thai food at street food price 30 to 50 Baht only!  Still on the ground level, this time at the other end you have a small cafe selling Thai food. Everything is written in Thai, have fun with that .

Left luggage

Counter  level 2 Arrival and level 4 departure behind row P. 100 Baht for the first 24h and later 50 Baht every 12h. Good for few hours but pricey on the long term. Most guesthouse/hotel will offer this service for cheaper.
